  • The number of novel coronavirus cases crossed the 1,000-mark on Sunday after 106 fresh cases were reported in the past 24 hours across the country
  • The death toll rose to 27, according to the Union Health Ministry.
  • The number of active COVID-19 cases stands at 901, while 95 people were either cured or discharged and one had migrated, the ministry stated.

Delhi High Court judges to donate Rs 10,000 each to PM-CARES Fund

  • The decision was taken by Chief Justice D N Patel and other judges of the high court, a statement issued by the Registrar General's office said.
  • "It is the need of the hour that this court and the courts subordinate to this court make voluntary donations in the said account (fund). It is, therefore, proposed that judges of this court donate Rs 10,000 each towards the PM-CARES Fund," the statement said.

Italy coronavirus deaths rise by 756, lifting total death toll to 10,779


The death toll from an outbreak of coronavirus in Italy climbed by 756 to 10,779, the Civil Protection Agency said on Sunday, the second successive fall in the daily rate.
The number of fatalities, by far the highest of any country in the world, account for more than a third of all deaths from the infectious virus worldwide.

Italy's largest daily toll was registered on Friday, when 919 people died. There were 889 deaths on Saturday.
The total number of confirmed cases in Italy rose on Sunday to 97,689 from a previous 92,472, the lowest daily rise in new cases since Wednesday.
Of those infected nationwide, 13,030 had fully recovered on Sunday, compared to 12,384 the day before. There were 3,906 people in intensive care, up from the previous 3,856.
Lombardy, the hardest hit Italian region, reported a rise in deaths of around 416 on Sunday.
More than 662,700 people have been infected by the novel coronavirus across the world and 30,751 have died, according to a Reuters tall.

The groups have been empowered to formulate plans and to take all necessary steps for their time bound implementation.

  • Thomas Schaefer, the finance minister of Germany's Hesse state, has committed suicide apparently after becoming "deeply worried" over how to cope with the economic fallout from the coronavirus, state premier Volker Bouffier said Sunday.

  • Schaefer, 54, was found dead near a railway track on Saturday. The Wiesbaden prosecution's office said they believe he died by suicide.
  • "We are in shock, we are in disbelief and above all we are immensely sad," Bouffier said in a recorded statement.

Lockdown: Assam issues passes to people for feeding stray animals

  • The Assam government is issuing passes to animal welfare organisations and individuals for feeding stray animals during the 21-day nationwide lockdown imposed to contain the spread of novel coronavirus, officials said on Sunday.
  • The lockdown entered the fifth day on Sunday.
  • "Passes have been issued to animal lovers but they should maintain social distancing and follow other guidelines," an official said.
  • The animal lovers are undertaking social media campaigns urging people to feed the stray animals who earlier survived on leftovers from restaurants that are now shut due to the lockdown.
